January 1, Polar Bear Plunge
If you’re crazy and you know it, take a swim at the Polar Bear Plunge! There’s perhaps no better New Year’s hangover cure than a dip in the cold Pacific with the
La Jolla Cove Swim Club. Some will go to swim and others just to dip their big toe in 
the big blue, but all should go to share in the joy of the New Year and the warmth of good friends, fellow swimmers, and great potluck food.

January 1 – 4, San Diego International Auto Show

January 8, Centennial Beer Tasting 
Celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Museum of Man and the Panama-California Exposition in Balboa Park at the Centennial Beer Tasting. Commemorate the occasion with beer tastings from multiple craft breweries and delicious food from local eateries inside one of the oldest and most iconic buildings in the park. January 9 – 10, Winter Festival - Poway
This Winter Festival brings to life all of the charm and entertainment of a cold-mountain town, set right in Poway. Sled down the snow hill, devour delicious s’mores, skate around the synthetic ice rink, and visit a variety of vendors. Lights will twinkle, and music sets the tone. This is a free event.

January 10, San Diego Resolution Run
Take strides to reduce your carbon and physical footprint at the San Diego Resolution Run 5K & 15K. A healthier you, can mean a lighter you and a lighter footprint. This event will have you racing through Mission Bay Parks, beautiful Tecolote Shores, North Park, looping around Fiesta Island on the 5K or 15K courses while keeping resolutions to stay fit, get outside, help the planet, and be social.

January 18, 35th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade
This is one of the largest celebrations of its kind in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the United States. This parade is filled with dazzling floats, soulful High School Bands, drill teams, colleges, fraternities, churches, organizations, and peace and youth groups. Join thousands of others and help continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

January 24, 3rd Annual Carmel Valley 5K & Fun Run
The Kaiser Permanente Carmel Valley 5K & Fun Run is 
excited to announce their third annual event. New this year is the partnership with the Bay Club Carmel Valley, which will serve as the location for the start of the race as well as the host of the popular after party, recently renamed the “Bay Club Bash.” The race raises funds for schools located in Carmel Valley. January 24 – 25, San Diego Cat Fanciers Food & Waterbowl XXIII
The nation’s finest cats will vie for top honors at this year’s
“Food & Water Bowl XXIII,” the largest annual cat show on the West Coast. The Education Ring will feature beautiful pedigreed breeds as well as selected cats available for adoption from shelter/rescue organizations at the show. This festival will feature winning scripts from the 
California Young Playwrights Contest for ages 18 and under. Contest winners were selected from 581 plays submitted by students from across the state.
